Chihuly: The Nature of Glass

Last week I went with my cute cousins Megan and Maria and little Lincoln to the Chihuly show at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens. It was so amazing!!! I have to admit to being a big Chihuly fan.

Dale Chihuly is a glass blower and master of light in glass. He and his studio have produced various glass installations that have been shown around the world. They have also done numerous permanent commissions. You are probably most familiar with his work in the Bellagio Hotel lobby in Las Vegas, or his piece done at the time of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City's Abravanel Hall. It is interesting to note that Chihuly actually lost the use of one eye in the 1970s and so he no longer blows glass personally, but he designs each piece and oversees the workers in his studio.

Here are some pictures I got at the Desert Botanical Garden Show, Chihuly: The Nature of Glass. I love the way the pieces mimic some of the desert landscape. It was also very cool to come back to a piece we had seen an hour earlier and notice the way that the shift in light had changed the piece. Everyone needs to head to Phoenix to check out this show before it ends on May 31st!

Hey, I got to go to this and loved it, too. I love your photos. You got some shots that I wish I'd thought of while I was there.
I blogged about it, too on my wordpress blog. I also posted some photos on my flickr page. I simply adored walking around the combination of nature and art. It was heaven on earth for me.
